Candace Owens Weighs In on Leaked Nashville Shooter Manifesto

Candace Owens has weighed in on the news that a manifesto allegedly written by the Nashville school shooter was recently released by fellow conservative commentator Steven Crowder.

In a video posted on Monday to YouTube, Crowder said the manifesto was leaked and shared screenshots of portions of the document, which was represented as the work of Audrey Hale, 28, whom authorities identified as the shooter at The Covenant School. They also said Hale, who died at the scene, once attended the school.

"BREAKING: Nashville School Covenant Shooter Audrey Hale's 'DEATH DAY' Manifesto Targeted 'Cr*ckers' with 'white privlages [sic],'" Crowder wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

Back in March, Hale was identified as the suspect who fatally shot six individuals, including three children at The Covenant School, in Nashville. Shortly after the shooting, police said that they had recovered a manifesto thought to have been written by Hale and that she identified as transgender.

Responding to Crowder's manifesto claims, a spokesperson for the Metro Nashville Police Department told Newsweek on Monday: "We have not released that and at this point we are unable to confirm the authenticity of what has been released, although we are looking into that at this very moment."

In response to law enforcement officials declining to confirm the manifesto, Crowder told Newsweek: "We stand by our reporting."

Nashville-based Owens shared her thoughts on the reported manifesto on Monday, writing on X: "Holding my comments regarding the #NashvilleManifesto because I am unsure if it is in fact the manifesto, or just 3 pages from the shooter's notebook.

"My earlier understanding was the that the shooter had a detailed manifesto which spelled out the reasons for the attack which was being withheld? Either way I hope this at the very least puts pressure on the authorities to release everything they have because the public has always had a right to know."

An X user said in response to Owens' post that while they "agree that the public has a right to know," they asked if she believed "we should give the shooter more attention by releasing this? Isn't that what they want? Maybe it's better if the words of a psychopath are not amplified. Just a thought."

"As a mother I disagree," Owens wrote back, before taking aim at Hale's transgender identity. "As an advocate against the mental illness that is transgenderism, I disagree.

"We have to look evil in the face if we want to defeat it. I want to know everything there is to know about a trans person that ruthlessly murders Christian schoolchildren—up to and including the pharmaceutical drugs she was on. Every page of every notebook. Every text message. Everything."

Back in April, police investigating the tragic shooting said that they had a manifesto that detailed monthslong plans to commit the attack.

"In the collective writings by Hale found in her vehicle in the school parking lot, and others later found in the bedroom of her home, she documented, in journals, her planning over a period of months to commit mass murder at The Covenant School," the Metro Nashville Police Department said at the time.

This month, Representative John Rose, a Tennessee Republican, issued a statement in which he called on the Nashville Police Department to release further information about Hale.

"Nashvillians and Tennesseans deserve greater transparency and responsiveness on an issue that so deeply affects our community," Rose said in the statement.

"Chief [of Nashville Police John] Drake has completely ignored my reasonable request for more information regarding the evidence seized in the Covenant School shooting.

"This lack of cooperation is leaving those of us in positions of leadership in the dark, without critical insights that may be helpful as we discuss policy solutions that may prevent future tragedies."

Newsweek has contacted the Nashville Police Department via email for comment.
