'Hearthstone' Miniature Warfare Guide: Standard Edition

This week's Hearthstone Tavern Brawl, "Miniature Warfare-Standard," can be hard to understand. Each player drafts a deck using cards in the rotation standard, but every minion costs one mana and is a 1/1. They are pip-squeaks regardless if they are played or summoned, meaning Feral Spirit wolves and Hexed minions have the same stats as Alexstrasza. Streamer Disguised Toast had fun with this Brawl last time we saw it, though sadly the crazy combos he pulled off require cards from Wild.

It's an entertaining Brawl with tons of different viable decks. You can try a C'Thun Rogue, buffing the Old God from a 1/1 to a giant monster. Token Druid spams the field with dangerous Knife Juggler damage and you can even make Spell Hunter work. Your deck does need to include a few powerful cards to stay relevant, though. Keep in mind that Cairne Bloodhoof summons a 1/1 Tauren when he dies, I saw too many players try that combo and fail.

Alexstrasza: The single best card in this Brawl. For one mana, you can deal 15 damage to your opponent or heal yourself up to the same amount. It enable OTKs, combos and just plain dirty tricks.

Bonemare: After the nerfs, I was worried I'd never got to see my fleshless friend again. For the same cost as a Leper Gnome you can buff any one of your garbage minions to a 5/5. The meanest turn one play I've seen so far is a Cobalt Scalebane followed by the horse. Killing a giant Taunt minion that buffs your other minions infinitely is a pretty sick combo.

Violet Wurm: It's a one-mana minion that summons seven 1/1 minions, what more do you need to know?

The decks I've been enjoying are OTK Priest and Buff Shaman. With Anduin the strategy is simple: draw cards until you have Prophet Velen, Faceless Manipulator and Mind Blast. Then slam it all down and watch your opponent cower in fear.

For Shaman, you're playing as aggressively as possible. You want to buff your minions while killing everything your enemy has. You should have the upper hand with higher stats because of Fungalmancer and Sunborne Val'kyr.
