On January 4, 1998, Hope Elizabeth Soberano was born in Santa Clara, California. She was reared in Santa Clara, California by her American mother Jacqulyn Elizabeth Hanley and her Filipino father John Castillo Soberano of Asingan, Pangasinan. After her parents divorced, she was reared by her paternal grandparents in Visalia, California. She relocated to Manila, the Philippines when she was ten years old to reside with her father and relatives.

After relocating to Manila at the age of 12, she received an opportunity to model for print advertisements. A talent scout identified her when she was 13 and presented her to Ogie Diaz, who would later become her new talent manager.
